Mary Fisher
c1817-1894
Mary Ann was born in Newbury c1817 she was the daughter of John and Maria Lovegrove (nee Whiting) who were married at St Nicolas Church Newbury on the 13th August 1811 (Maria has been recorded as Keziah on Hardwicke Marriage Index and Meria on FMP marriage records). John was born c1789 in Newbury and was a Carpenter. Maria was born c1784 in Great Bedwyn Wiltshire.
John and Maria also had the following children:

In 1815 the family were living in Atkins Yard (east side of Bartholomew Street) Newbury.
In 1841 Mary was living in Bartholomew Street with her parents and sisters Ellen and Sarah. Also living in Bartholomew Street was a William Fisher (20) a Millwright, living with his parents John Fisher (55), a Paper Maker, Sarah Fisher (55) and John Fisher (15), a Shop Man. Mary married William later that year.

William and Mary Ann had three children, William John born c1842 in Wantage, Fanny born c1852 in Newbury and Henry born c1856 in Greenham.
Mary and her son William (9) were recorded living with Mary’s parents in the Lamb and Flag Yard Newbury in the 1851 census.
In 1861 Mary (44) was living in Quakers Building Ground Cheap Street Newbury with her children, William (19), recorded as a cripple, Fanny (9) and Henry (4).
Her son William died aged 20 the following year he was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 25th June 1862.
Mary’s mother died aged 80 in 1863 she was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 27th November.
Her father died aged 80 six years later he was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 4th October 1869.
In 1871 Mary was recorded as a widow, working as a Sempstress, living in Osgood’s Yard Newbury with her two children. In 1881 she was working as a Domestic Cook and was living alone at 13 Victoria Place Newbury.
In 1891 Mary (75), a Charwoman, was an inmate in the Newbury Workhouse.
She died aged 77 on the 8th January 1894 and was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 11th January.
