DEATH OF MR. BENJAMIN FREEMAN WORKED AT PLENTY'S FOR OVER FIFTY YEARS
A well-known townsman has passed away in the person of Mr. Benjamin Freeman, of 18, Howard-road. He died on Saturday at the age of 84 years after only a few days confined to his bed.
Son of the late Mr. Thomas Freeman, he was born at Greenham, and had lived in Newbury all his life. A quiet, unobtrusive, retiring man of sterling worth, Mr. Freeman was foreman pattern maker at Messrs. Plenty's, for whom he worked well over half-a-century, retiring several years ago.
He was a typical British workman of the old school, very highly skilled, and go the maximum pleasure out of his job. For years he commenced work at six o'clock in the morning and was most reliable and conscientious. For years he never missed even a quarter of an hour.

He was a regular attendant at the Parish Church twice a Sunday until recently, when restricted by physical disability.
Mr. Freeman's wife died six months ago, and he leaves four daughters and one son, who is a Government official in Malay.
The funeral took place yesterday (Wednesday afternoon), a service at the Newbury Parish Church being conducted by the Rev. S. A. Larrett.
