Florence Gertrude Haines
c1887-1893
Florence Gertrude was born in Leicestershire, she was baptised on the 30th January 1887 at St Paul, Leicester, the daughter of Job and Sarah Anne Haines (nee Wheeler) who were married in 1875 (marriage registered in Newbury).
Florence’s father Job was baptised 25th November 1855, at St Nicolas, Newbury, the son of John (a Labourer) and Sarah Haines (nee Webb) who were married on the 24th November 1839, in Thatcham, Berkshire.
Her mother Sarah Anne was born c1854 in Speenhamland, Berkshire, the daughter of Richard and Abigail Wheeler (nee Holder) who were married in 1842, in Hungerford Berkshire.
Job and Sarah Anne also had the following two children:
Edwin Thomas, born 1877 in Leicestershire
Lilian Annie, born 1885 in Leicestershire
The 1881 census records Job (25) as a Leather Salesman, living at 11, Regent Street, Leicester, with Sarah Ann (26), their son Edwin T. (3) and his mother Sarah Hazell (70)
Florence’s mother Sarah Ann died aged 34 in 1888, in Leicestershire. After her death Florence went to live with her aunt, Abigail Gould.
In 1891 Florence (4) was living at 5 West Street, Newbury, with her aunt, Abigail Gould (45) (formerly Lansley, nee Wheeler), her uncle, Stephen Gould (34), her cousin Anne Lansley (4) and her grandmother Abigail Wheeler (68) a Shirt Maker. Florence’s father Job (35), a Leather Agent, was recorded living in Belgrave, Leicester, with his son Edwin (13), his daughter Lilian (6) and his mother Sarah Hazell (76) (formerly Haines, nee Webb) and a boarder, Kate Sawbridge (Surnames recorded as Maines and Hayell on ancestry)
Sarah Hazel died aged 78 in 1893 in Leicester.
Florence Gertrude died aged 6 years 7 months on the 16th July 1893. She was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 19th July.
Her father Job remarried in 1894 in Leicester. His 2nd wife was Mary Joseph Savage.
The 1901 census records Job (44) as an Insurance Agent, living at 18, Albion Hill, Leicester, with his 2nd wife Mary (48), his son Edwin (23), a Journeyman Tailor, his daughter-in-law Kate (23), his daughter Lilian (16) and his granddaughter Nellie (1)
Job died aged 48 in 1903 in Leicester.
