Mary Haines

Mary was baptised in 1814 in Winterbourne, Berkshire, the daughter of James and Charlotte Holder (nee Barrett) who were married in 1810, in Chieveley, Berkshire.

James and Charlotte also had the following children:

Joseph, baptised 1811 in Winterbourne

Charles, baptised in 1817 in Chieveley

Lucy, baptised in 1820 in Chieveley

William, baptised in 1822 in Chieveley

 

Mary married Joseph Haines on the 3rd March 1837, in Winterbourne, Berkshire.

(Joseph was baptised in 1815, in Shaw cum Donnington, Berkshire, the son of William and Jane Haynes (nee Newman) who were married in 1798, in Shaw cum Donnington. Surname recorded as Hains).

Joseph and Mary had the following children:

George, c1838 baptised in Winterbourne

Elizabeth, 1840 (no baptism found, possibly baptised as Maria (see below) as no birth found for a Maria)

Maria, c1840, baptised in Winterbourne

William, 1844 born in Shaw

Isaac, 1847 born in Donnington

Henry, 1849 born in Donnington

Jane, 1851 born in Donnington (died aged 17 in 1868, buried in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 16th June)

Charles, c1855 born in Donnington

Alfred, 1857 born in Donnington

A female, 1860 (died without being named soon after birth)

Joseph, Mary and their children were recorded living in Shaw cum Donnington in the 1851-1891 census records.

Joseph was recorded as an Agricultural Labourer in 1851, a Gardener in 1861, 1871 and 1881 and a Jobbing Gardener in 1891. Mary was recorded as a Laundress in the 1861 census.

 

Mary died aged 79 in 1893 in Donnington. She was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 15th May.

In 1901 Joseph (85) was recorded boarding at 2 Highgate Villas, Queens Road, Newbury. With a Fred Collins (31) and his family. (Surname recorded as Harries on ancestry)

Joseph died aged 92 on the 22nd August 1906, in the Newbury Workhouse. He was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 25th August.
