William Quelch
c1814-1892
William was baptised on the 18th September 1814 at St Peter, Brimpton, Berkshire, the son of Thomas and Ann Quelch (nee Stroud) who were married on the 22nd October 1806 in Aldermaston Berkshire.
His mother Ann was born c1784, she died aged 39 in 1825 and was buried on the 16th June at St Peter, Brimpton.
His father Thomas was born c1777. He died aged 80 in 1847 and was buried on the 18th November at St Nicolas, Wasing.
William’s siblings were (all baptised in Brimpton):
Mary 18/10/1810 John 15/11/1812 Sarah 5/5/1816 Elizabeth 10/5/1818 George 7/5/1820 Jane 10/2/1822 Thomas 14/12/1823
William’s father remarried on the 13th December 1826 at St Nicolas Wasing. His 2nd wife was Mary Mossdell. The had a daughter Eliza who was baptised on the 25th February 1827 in Wasing.
The 1841 census records William (25) as an Agricultural Labourer living with his father Thomas (60), an Agricultural Labourer, his step-mother Mary (50), his sister Jane (15) and his half-sister Eliza (14)
The 1851 census records William (35) as a Farm Servant, lodging in Wasing
The 1881 census records him aged 66, living at 2 Bridge Cottages, Woolhampton, with his married sister Sarah Bidmead (64), her husband George Bidmead (56) and a niece, Mary A Quelch (11).
By 1891 William (79), a General Labourer was an inmate in the Newbury Workhouse.
He died aged 80 on the 21st February 1892 in the Newbury Workhouse and was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 25th February.
