Rose Purdue
1891-1891
Rose was born in Newbury, Berkshire, the daughter of Joseph and Georgina Purdue (nee Phillips) who were married on the 15th July 1882 at St Nicolas Church Newbury.
Rose died aged 2 months in September 1891, she was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 17th September.
Rose’s family:
Her mother Georgina was born on the 14th March 1859 in Newbury, Berkshire, the daughter of Alfred (a Tailor) and Elizabeth Phillips (nee Alexander) who were married on the 6th June 1842, at St Nicolas Church Newbury.
Her father Joseph was baptised 23rd July 1843, in Overton, Hampshire, the son of Robert (a Bricklayer) and Jane Purdue (nee Pearce) who were married in 1831 in Overton.
Joseph was a Bricklayer. He married Ellen Eliza Woods on the 14th June 1869, in Winterbourne Earls, Wiltshire.
They had the following children (Rose’s half-siblings):
Sydney George born 1870 in Wiltshire
Ellen born c1872 in Wiltshire
Edwin Charles born 1873 in Wiltshire
Louis born 1875 in Hampshire, baptised as Joseph on the 10th October 1875 in Hampshire
Ernest born 1877 in Hampshire
Harriet Jane born 1878 in Hampshire
Joseph was widowed in 1880, Ellen Eliza died aged 31 (death registered in the September quarter in Newbury).
Joseph and Georgina also had the following children (Rose’s full siblings):
Robin born 1883 in Berkshire
Norman born 1885 in Berkshire
Louis born 1889 in Berkshire
Georgina born 1887 in Kent
Elsie born 1896 in Berkshire
The 1891 census records Joseph (46) as a Bricklayer’s Foreman, living in Gosport Villa, Greenham, Berkshire, with Georgina (34), Joseph (17), a Bricklayer, Harriet Jane (13), Robin (8), Norman (6), Georgina (4) and Louis (2).
In 1901 Joseph (57) was recorded as a Bricklayer, living in Nursery Cottages, Speen, Berkshire, with Georgina (40), Norman (15), Louis (11) and Elsie (4).
Joseph died aged 56 in 1901. He was buried on the 18th October, at St Mary the Virgin, Speen.
The 1911 census records Georgina (49) as a Housekeeper, for widower, Robert Plummer and his family, in Newtown, Hungerford, Berkshire.
In 1939 Georgina was living at Lawn Cottage, Guilford Road, Bagshot, Surrey, with her son Robin and his family.
Georgina died aged 81 in 1940 in Surrey.
