The Late Mrs. Rebecca Johnston.-
It is with regret we have to announce the death of the widow of the late Mr, Robert Johnston, a member of the Corporation and Mayor in 1883, which occurred on Thursday after a short illness, at her residence in Northbrook-street. She was aged 65.
On the previous Monday morning the deceased ruptured a blood vessel. Her case was considered from the first hopeless, and by a remarkable coincidence she passed away on the same day as her mother, Mrs. Ham of Englefield, who reached the advanced age of 98.
The funeral took place on Monday, the body being conveyed on an open car to the Cemetery, where the service was read by the Rector (Rev. E.I. Gardiner).
The mourners were the sons, son-in-law, and Mr. Stradling. The coffin, which was of polished oak with brass furniture, was covered with beautiful wreaths and crosses. In addition to those sent my members of the family we noticed the following:-
Mr. & Mrs. Lowe and family, Ilsley, Mr. & Mrs. ?*, Mr. and Mrs. Batting, Mr. and Mrs. W. ?*, Mr. and Mrs. Saunders, Mr. and Mrs. ?*, Mr. and Mrs. Linton, Mrs. Warriner, Mrs. ?*, Mrs. Burns, the Misses Deane, Misses ?*, Misses C. and M. Boyer, Miss Stratton, and ?* Miles.
The funeral arrangements were carried out by Messrs. Penford and Son, of Northbrook-street.
