DEATH OF MR W J ALLEE
The death yesterday (Wednesday) morning of Mr. William James Allee, of 16 Kingsbridge-road, Newbury, has cut short a promising career. Mr Allee was only 19 years of age. Upon leaving the Council School he became clerk in the office of Mr. W. R. Pettifer, clerk to the Borough and County Magistrates. Recently he had become chief clerk under Mr.Samuel Widdicombe, who has succeeded Mr Pettifer. Mr Allee carried out his duties both in the court and office, in a conscientious manner, was reliable and efficient. He was at his work as recently as a week before his death. He was the son of the late Mr. John Allee,who just after the war was knocked down and killed by a motor-car near Guildford. Since then Mrs. John Allee has passed away.

THE LATE MR. W. J. ALLEE
MAGISTRATES ATTEND FUNERAL
The funeral of Mr William James Allee, of Kingsbridge-road, Newbury, a clerk in the Magistrates' Clerks' office at Newbury, whose death, at the age of 19, was reported in our last issue, took place on Saturday morning. The interment was in the Newtown-road Cemetery, where a service in thechapel was conducted by the Rev. G. C. Twist. The attedance included members of the Newbury Borough and County Benches of magistrates, and TownCouncil officials.
The mourners were : Miss Margaret Allee (sister), Mr Harry Munday (uncle), Mr Arthur Allee, Liphook (uncle), Mrs Bleach, Haslemere (aunt), Mr C W Cann, Chieveley (uncle), Mr Norman Allee, Abingdon (cousin), Mrs Pocock, Woodspeen (cousin), Mr and Mrs F Ellaway,Liphook, Messrs B Rummins, E Pocock,J Jones and R Green.
Amoung those also present were : The Mayor (Major H Rummins), Colonel J A Fairhurst (chairman ofNewbury County Bench of magistrates), the Deputy Mayor (Councillor C W Burns), Dr R Hickman, Councillorf J H Thompson, Alderman A O Elliott, Mrs E A Hopson, Councillor and Mrs J R Witts, Councillor Elsie Kimber,Mr S Widdicombe (Clerk to theMagistrates), Mr R H Jeeves, Messrs. J B Herbert, C H Freeman, A H R Mussell, H G Runham, K Woollacott, R Swingler and W C Willmott, Miss M L Connor, Supt. R T Lambourn, Insp. W H Benstead, Sgt C Morton, Mr and Mrs R Green, Messrs. G E Willis and A B Williams, Mrs F C Rosier, Mrs G Gibbs, Mr T Taylor, Mr E J Duckett, Mrs F G Wickens.
There follows a list of persons who sent wreaths.
The funeral arrangements were carried out by Messrs. Eggleton and Tallyn, of Newbury
Magistrates' Tributes
Sympathetic references to Mr Allee's death were made by the Chairman, Colonel J A Fairhurst, at Newbury County Bench on Thursday, and by the Mayor,(Major H Rummins) at the Borough Police Court on Friday. Mr S Widdicombe, Magistrates' Clerk,spoke highly of Mr Allee's character, and said he was a most conscientious worker, and always kind and patient. He would be muchmissed by his colleagues in the Municipal offices. Supt.Lambourn associated himself with these remarks. The Court on Friday stood for amoment in silence.
