George Girdler

c1805-1891

George was born in Hampshire he was baptised on the 24th March 1805 in Kingsclere Hampshire the son of William and Hannah Girdler (nee Chandler) who were married on the 13th December 1795 in Kingsclere.

George married Mary Owens on the 15th November 1827 in Kingsclere Hampshire. Mary was baptised on the 2nd February 1803 in Kingsclere Hampshire the daughter of John and Ann Owens (nee Benwell) who were married on the 16th March 1792 in Kingsclere.

Known children of George and Mary were:

George baptised 2nd November 1828 in Bucklebury

Thomas baptised 13th February 1831 in Thatcham

James baptised 6th April 1834 in Bucklebury

Caroline baptised 28th August 1836 in Bucklebury (died aged 18 months buried 24th December 1837 in Bucklebury)

Charles born c1840

 

George worked as Labourer/Agricultural Labourer.

The 1851 census records George (45) living in Crown Street, Thatcham Berkshire with his wife Mary (50) and son Charles (10) (surname recorded as Gurdler on ancestry).

The 1861 census records them living in Colthrop Cottage, Thatcham. George and Mary were still living in Colthrop in 1871.

Mary died aged 75 in 1876 she was buried on the 25th September in Thatcham Berkshire.

George (77) was recorded living alone in Turnfield Thatcham in 1881.

He died aged 89 in 1891 and was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 31st January.
