Harry Richard Meagrow/Megrow
1890-1890
Harry Richard Meagrow was born in Newbury, Berkshire (birth registered in the March quarter), the son of Henry and Ann Meagrow (nee Palmer) who were married in 1882 (marriage registered in Hungerford)
Harry Richard Megrow died aged 10 months on the 7th December 1890, he was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 10th December.
(The Cemetery Accounts Ledger records his name as Richard Henry Megrow)
Harry Richard’s family:
Harry’s father Henry Magrow was born in 1853, in Eddington Wiltshire, the son of Silvester and Harriet Megrow (nee Liddiard) who were married in 1852 (marriage registered in Hungerford) Henry Meagrow died aged 75 in 1929, in Newbury.
Harry’s mother Ann was born on the 24th November 1857, in Lambourn, Berkshire, the daughter of Richard and Mary Palmer (nee Drew) who were married in 1854 (marriage registered in Hungerford) Ann Meagrow died aged 90, in 1948, in Newbury
Harry’s mother Ann had an illegitimate son Henry Richard Palmer, born in 1881, in Lambourn
Henry and Ann also had the following children born in Newbury:
Annie Mary Meagrow, born c1883, baptised 1st April 1883, at St Nicolas, Newbury
Eliza Elizabeth Meagrow, born 1885, baptised 29th September 1885, at St Nicolas, Newbury
Harriet Meagrow, born 1888, baptised 18th April 1888, at St Nicolas, Newbury
Alfred Warwick Meagrow, born 17th Nov. 1891, baptised 19th January 1892, at St Nicolas, Newbury
Sidney Walter Silvester Meagrow, born 1894
Margaret Selina Meagrow, born 1898
In 1891 Henry Megrow (36) was working as a Groom, living at 4, Smith’s Buildings, Newbury, with Ann (35), William G. (11), Anne M. (8), Eliza E. (5) and Harriet (3).
In 1901 Henry Meagrow (46), an Assistant to a Butcher, Ann (45), Harriet (13), an Apprentice to a Toy Dealer, Alfred (9), Sidney (6) and Margaret (2) were still living at 4 Smith’s Buildings.
The 1911 census records Henry Meagrow (57) as a Trademan’s Groom, living at 2 Corporation Cottages, Speenhamland, Newbury, with Ann (55) and their children, Warwick (18), a Stable Lad, Sidney (16), a Butcher’s Errand Boy and Margaret (12)
The 1939 Register records Ann Meagrow (82) and her son Sidney (45) still living at 2 Corporation Cottages, Speenhamland.
