Elizabeth Mary Brazier
1865-1935
Elizabeth, her parents, siblings and early life:
Elizabeth was born in Aldermaston Berkshire the daughter of Thomas and Matilda Holloway (nee Rodd) who were married in 1862 (marriage registered in Newbury).
Her father Thomas was born c1821, he died aged 45 in 1866 and was buried at St Mary the Virgin Aldermaston on the 5th May.
Her mother Matilda was born c1831 in Crookham Berkshire, the illegitimate daughter of Mary Ann Rodd who married William Wilmot on the 18th October 1832 at St Mary’s Church Thatcham. She died aged 86 (as Matilda Collins, see 2nd marriage below) on the 5th January 1917. She was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 9th January (At the time of her death she was living at 63 Gloucester Road Newbury)
Thomas and Matilda also had the following two children:

Her mother remarried in 1870, her 2nd husband was Alexander Collins, an Engine Fitter. (Alexander was born c1835 in Speen the son of Edward (a Millwright) and Hannah Collins (nee Knapp) who were married in 1811 in Blewbury Berkshire)
Alexander and Matilda had two children, William Alex born c1871 and Ellen born c1873
In 1871 the family were recorded living in Wither’s Yard, Newbury
Alexander died aged 39 in 1874, he was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 11th May
In 1881 Matilda was recorded as a Seamstress, living in Waldegrave Place, Newbury with her children Thomas Holloway (14) and Errand Boy, William Collins (10) and Ellen Collins (8). She was still working as a Seamstress in 1891 and was still living in Waldegrave Place but was now living alone. By 1901 she was living in a Kimber’s Almshouse in Newbury.
Elizabeth in later life:
In 1881 Elizabeth (17) was working as a General Servant for a George Wintle a Draper at 10 Northbrook Street, Newbury.
In 1891 Elizabeth (27) was working as a Housemaid for a Marmaduke Best, a Justice of the Peace for the County of Berkshire, at Grove House, Shaw.
She married in 1892

Richard and Elizabeth had the following children:

The 1901 census records the family living at 24 West Street, Newbury
The 1911 census records Elizabeth ((46) living at 24 West Street with her two daughters, Florence (16) a Draper’s Assistant and Kathleen (12) her mother Matilda Collins (81) and a visitor, Emma Willmott (43). Her two sons Richard Thomas (14) a Clerk and Kenneth (13) were recorded as visitors at the home of David and Mary Ann Geater at 1 Windsor Place, West Street. Newbury. Her husband Richard (50) (surname recorded as Brayer on Ancestry) was recorded in the household of Ernest and Lucy Lloyd (nee Holloway, Elizabeth’s sister) at 27 Hill Street, Knightsbridge.
By 1913 Richard and Elizabeth were living at 63 Gloucester Road Newbury, by 1935 they had moved to 91 Newtown Road, Newbury.
Elizabeth Mary died aged 70 on the 12th September 1935 at 55 Hamiln-lane Exeter, her body was brought back to Newbury and she was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 16th September.
Richard died aged 87 on the 31st October 1947, he was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 4th November.
Probate: BRAZIER Elizabeth Mary of 91 Newtown-road Newbury Berkshire (wife of Richard Brazier) died 12th September 1935 at 55 Hamlin-lane Exeter Administration Oxford 11th May to the said Richard Brazier journeyman house decorator. Effects: £357 19s 6d
