Only three of the five burial register books still exist as far as we know and these are held at the Berkshire Record Office.
Stillborn children were not recorded in the burial register, only in the cemetery accounts.

ELLEN POCOCK 1864 - 1890

tells us that Ellen was born in Newbury in March, 1864. Her parents were unknown to the researcher.
In 1881 census she is described as an unemployed domestic servant.
She married Frederick (1864 – 1950) in 1884. They had three children – Mary Jane (b. 1885), George Thomas (b. 1887) and Frederick (b. 1890).
Ellen died 15th July, 1890 aged 26 and 4 months and was buried in P(J)4.
The grave inscription reads:-
”Day by day we all do miss her.
Words would fail our loss to tell.
But in Heaven we hope to meet her
Ever more with her to dwell.”
Frederick senior lived on until 21st August, 1950 before meeting her again when he was aged 86.
