Stillborn children were not recorded in the burial register, only in the cemetery accounts.

Sarah and her twin brother Thomas Mosdell were born in Newbury, they were baptised on the 1st June 1819 at St Nicolas Church Newbury, the children of Richard and Hannah Mosdell, their father was recorded as a Labourer on the baptism record.

In 1841 Sarah (21) was recorded living in Martin’s Yard, Cheap Street, Newbury with her parents Richard (50), a Labourer and Hannah (55), her twin brother, Thomas (21), a Labourer and Thomas (3). (Ancestry have recorded the surname as Mardell)

Sarah had two illegitimate children, her daughter Hannah was born in1843, she was baptised on the 31st December at St Nicolas Church Newbury. Sadly Hannah died aged 10 months, she was buried on the 29th October 1844 at St Nicolas Newbury. Her son John was born in 1846, he was baptised on the 31st January 1847 at St Nicolas Church Newbury.

Sarah married James King in 1848 (marriage registered in Newbury)

In 1851 James King (26), was recorded as a Bricklayer’s Labourer living in Hamblin’s Yard, Cheap Street, Newbury with Sarah (30), John (4) (born Mosdell now known as John King), Richard (2) and James (5 months).

 (Sarah’s mother Hannah (72), her brothers, Richard (39) and Thomas (30), both Bargeman and her nephew Thomas (12) (son of Sarah’s widowed brother Charles) were recorded living next door).

Sarah’s mother died aged 78 in 1853, she was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 9th August.

The 1861 census records James (33), as a Labourer, Sarah (36) and their children, John (14), an Apprentice Cordwainer, Richard (11), James (9), Charles (5), Jeremiah (2) and William (2 months) living in ? Yard, Cheap Street, Newbury

James (50) a Bricklayer’s Labourer, Sarah (54), and their children, James (20) a Waiter, Charles (13) a Labourer and William (10) were recorded living in Knight Yard, Newbury in 1871.

The 1881 census records James (59), as a Bricklayer’s Labourer, Sarah (59), as a Charwoman and their son Charles (25), as a Moulder, living at 5 Gilbert Court Newbury.

Sarah died aged 71 on the 16th February 1890, she was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 21st February

In 1891 James (72) was recorded as a General Labourer living at 4 Gilbert Court, Cheap Street, Newbury  with his son Richard (43), a General Dealer and his family.

The 1901 census records James (79) as a Pauper in the Union Workhouse Newbury

James died aged 91 in 1908 in the Workhouse he was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 30th May (burial record and NBI record his age as 92)
