George, his parents, siblings and early life:
George was born in Chieveley, Berkshire, the son of Henry and Caroline Ballard (nee Pike/Pyke) who were married on the 15th November 1845 in Oare, Berkshire.
His father Henry was baptised on the 22nd December 1823 in Chieveley, Berkshire, the son of Thomas and Hannah Ballard (nee Tidbury) who were married on the 25th December 1816, at St Andrew, Bradfield, Berkshire. Henry died aged 63, in the Newbury Workhouse, on the 5th August 1887, he was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 9th August.
His mother Caroline was baptised in 1826, in Oare/Chieveley, Berkshire, the daughter of William and Lucy Pike (nee Sellwood) who were married on the 11thJanuary 1824, in Chieveley. Caroline died aged 49, in 1875, she was buried on the 12th September, at St Bartholomew, Oare, Berkshire.
Henry and Carloine also had the following children:
Amos, birth registered in the December quarter 1845 as Amos Ballard, mmn Pike. Amos was baptised as Amos Pike on the 1st March 1846, in Oare, the son of Caroline Pike.

Harriet, born 1851, baptised 1st March 1854 (died aged 17, buried 6th March 1868, at St Bartholomew, Oare)

Alice Hannah, born 1858, baptised 3rd October (as Alice Anna)

Twins: Matthew and Mark, born 1861, baptised 2nd March 1862 (as Matthew henry and Mark James)

In 1861 Henry (37), an Agricultural Labourer, Caroline (35), Maria (14), Mary (13), Sarah (11), Harriet (9), Charles (8), Thomas (5), George (4), Alice (3) and David (1), were living in Crab Tree Road, Curridge, Chieveley, Berkshire.
In 1871 George (14) was working as an Agricultural Labourer, lodging at New Farm, Compton, Berkshire.
By 1881 George (24) was back living in Curridge, Berkshire, with his widowed father, Henry (57) and his sisters, Eliza (15), Charlotte (13) and Harriet (11). Henry and George were still both working as Agricultural Labourers.

Witnesses: Thomas Armstrong and Mary Ann Ivey
(Ann Dry was born in 1853, in Faccombe, Hampshire. She was baptised on the 12th June 1853 in Faccombe, the daughter of John and Jane Dry (nee Wooldridge) who were married on the 18th November 1848, in Faccombe.  Ann married George Gibbs on the 19th November 1874, in Chieveley. Ann was widowed in 1881)
George and Ann had a son, William George, born in 1882, baptised on the 23rd July 1882 in Oare. 
George was widowed in 1885, Ann died aged 30, she was buried on the 27th February, at St Bartholomew, Oare.
George remarried (as George Henry) in 1887.

Fathers: Henry Ballard, a Labourer and George Appleton (no occupation recorded)
Witnesses: W. Brown and S. A. Brown
(Sarah Ann Appleton was born c1858, in Welford, Berkshire, the illegitimate daughter of Jane Appleton. When she married George, she gave her grandfather’s name as the name of her father. Sarah’s mother Jane Appleton was baptised in 1828, in Welford, the daughter of George and Hannah Appleton. Jane married widower Mark Cannon, in 1843. She was widowed in 1861 and remarried in 1871. Her 2nd husband was Richard Read. Jane’s surname recorded as Canning at time of marriage) 
Prior to her marriage in 1887, Sarah had two illegitimate children, Albert, born c1882, in Beedon, Berkshire and Georgina Ballard Appleton, born in Chieveley, in 1886. 
George and Sarah had the following two children:
Hannah Maria, born 1888, baptised as Anna Maria, on the 3rd June 1888, in Chieveley 
David, born 1889, in Chieveley (died age 5 months, buried in the NRC on the 3rd February 1890). 
George Henry Ballard died aged 33, on the 30th November 1889, he was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 6th December.
Sarah after George’s death:
Sarah gave birth to a son Percy, born c1890, in Newbury.
The 1891 census records Sarah (34) as a Charwoman, living at 6 Chestnut Court, Newbury, with her children, Albert (7), Georgia (4), (Georgina) Hannah (3) and Percy (1) 
George’s son William (7) (William George) was recorded as an inmate in the Newbury Workhouse, in the 1891 census.
Sarah remarried in 1899. Her 2nd husband was George Richard (aka Richard George) Partridge. 
They had two sons baptised at St Nicolas Church, Newbury, George Richard, on the 25th May 1900 (died aged 9 months, buried in the NRC on the 30th January 1901) and Charles Joseph, on the 17th February 1902, (born 26th February 1902).
In 1901 Sarah (42) and Richard G. Partridge (42), an Agricultural Labourer, were recorded living in Farnborough, Berkshire. Sarah’s children, Albert Ballard (18), Polly Ballard (14) (Georgina) and Maria Ballard (12) (Hannah Maria) were recorded living at 9, Jack Street, Newbury, with their grandmother, Jane Read (79).
The 1911 census records Richard (50) (as George), a Farm Labourer, Sarah (52), Charles (9), Annie Ballard (22) (Hannah Maria), Mabel Ballard (2) (the illegitimate daughter of Hannah) and Jane Reed (85), living in Faccombe, Andover, Hampshire.
By 1921 Richard George and Sarah Ann were living in Colthrop Cottages, Colthrop Mills, Thatcham, Berkshire.
Sarah Ann Partridge died aged 64, in 1922, in Thatcham, Berkshire.
George Richard Partridge died aged 66, in 1924, in Thatcham, Berkshire.
