Admitted into Freemasonry in the Loyal Berkshire Lodge of Hope No. 574 on 5th January, 1877.
He took his second and third degrees on 2nd February and 2nd March respectively.
He was made Secretary in 1878.
In the minutes of the meeting held at the Temperance Hall on 1st November 1889 it is recorded:-
"The Worshipful Master (W. Bro S Knight*) in feeling terms alluded to the death of Bro Charles Hopson which took place on October 28th and proposed that a letter expressing our sympathy with the relations should be sent them, this was seconded by Bro Harrold [q.v.] and carried unanimously."
