Sarah Hill (1832 1921)

Sarah was born circa 1832 in Newbury the daughter of Thomas Hodson and Elizabeth, nee Farr, Hill. In the 1841 census Sarah was living with her parents and siblings Thomas aged 13, Elizabeth aged 11, Emma aged 6, Lucy aged 4, William aged 2 and Jane aged 3 months in Middleton Court in Newbury. Thomas was recorded as a tailor.
Ten years later in the 1851 census Sarah was recorded with her parents Thomas and Elizabeth in Bartholomew Street in Newbury with siblings Elizabeth aged 22, Emma aged 16, Lucy aged 15 and William aged 13. Thomas was recorded as a tailor, Elizabeth, Sarah and Emma as servants and Lucy as a nursemaid.

In the 1861 census Sarah was recorded at 42 Pulteney Street in Bathwick (a suburb of Bath) and her occupation was a domestic servant.
Thomas Dodson Hill, Sarah's father, died November 1870 and he was buried at Newtown Road Cemetery on 14 November 1870.
Sarah was recorded as a visitor servant in the 1871 census living in Davis Terrace in Poplar in London, her occupation being recorded as a general servant.

In the 1881 census Sarah was recorded with her mother Elizabeth at 15 Cheap Street in Newbury and described as a charwoman. Elizabeth died January 1890 and was buried at Newtown Road Cemetery on 13 January 1890.

Sarah had moved back to London by the time of the 1891 census and was living at 23 Hatch= Park Road, Deptford, Greenwich with no occupation recorded. It appears Sarah then subsequently moved back to Newbury and in the 1901 census was living in Axe and Compass Yard in Cheap Street with no occupation recorded.

Ten years later in the 1911 census Sarah was living at 1 Jacksons Cottages in Stroud Green with again no occupation recorded.
