Robert Atkins
1866-1935
Robert was born in Warmington Northamptonshire, he was baptised on the 30th September 1866 in Warmington, the son of Smart and Ann Atkins (nee Arber) who were married in on the 9th March 1851 in Castor, Northampton.
Robert’s father Smart was an Agricultural Labourer, he was baptised on the 2nd July 1826 in Warmington, the son of John and Mary Atkinson (nee Brown) who were married on the 10th August 1823 in Warmington, John was from the parish of Elton, Huntingdon. (All later records record Smart’s surname as Atkins). Smart died aged 75 in 1902 in Warmington.
Robert’s mother Ann was baptised on the 30th May 1830 in Orton Waterville, Huntingdon the daughter of Summerley and Elizabeth Arber (nee Wallis) who were married on the 29th March 1818 in Twywell, Northamptonshire. Ann died aged 82 in 1912 in Lincolnshire.

The 1871 census records Robert (4) living in Warmington with his parents and brothers, William (15), George (12), Summerly (8) and Joseph (6).
Robert (14) was working as an Agricultural Labourer in 1881, he was still living with his parents and his brother Frederick (6) in Warmington.
The 1891 census records Robert as a Metropolitan Police Constable at the Police Station in Molyneux Street, Marylebone, London.

Witnesses: John Richard Neuables and Constance Minnie Roberts
(Elizabeth Jane Jessett was born on the 19th November 1872 in Eddington, Berkshire the daughter of Thomas and Anna Maria Jessett (nee Ruddle) who were married in 1870 in Berkshire).
Robert and Elizabeth Jane had the following children:
Annie Florence born 1894 in Marylebone
Frederick born 1895 in Warmington (died aged 34 in 1930, buried in the NRC on the 16th July)
Robert born 1897 in Marylebone
Lucy Agnes born 2nd August 1899 in Marylebone
William born c1901 in Marylebone (died c1901)
Harold born 11th August 1903 in Marylebone
Walter Charles born c1908 in Marylebone
Twins: James Stanley (aka Stanley James) and Joseph Gordon born 5th February 1911 in Newbury
The 1901 census records Robert (34) as a Metropolitan Police Constable, living at 11 Wharncliffe Gardens, St Marylebone with his wife Elizabeth (28) and their children Annie (6), Robert (3) and Lucy (1)
By 1911 the family were living at 10 Ena Terrace, Russell Road, Newbury, Berkshire. The census for this year records Robert, aged 46, as a Metropolitan Police Pensioner.
Robert died aged 68 on the 28th February 1935, he was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 4th March.
The 1939 Register records Elizabeth living on a Widow’s Pension, at 2 Green Lane, Newbury.
She died aged 88 in 1960 in Newbury.
