John Hazell

1885-1885

John and his twin brother Daniel were born on the in December 1885, the sons of John Malachi and Eleanor (aka Ellen) Hazell (formerly Randall, nee Stratton) who were married in 1882 (marriage registered in Newbury.

John died aged 15 days he was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 21st December 1885.

His father John’s birth was registered as Malachi Hazell in the December quarter 1855 in Newbury. He was baptised as Malachi on the 28th June 1857 at St Nicolas Church Newbury, the son of John and Ellen (Eleanor) Hazell (nee Curtis) who were married in 1846 (marriage registered in Newbury).  In his early life John was known as Malachi, in later life he was known as both John and John Malachi Hazell.

John’s mother Ellen (Eleanor) was born in 1847 in Woodspeen, Berkshire, the daughter of Thomas and Elizabeth Stratton (nee Allen) who were married in Speen in 1831, Ellen married Thomas Randall in 1868 she was widowed in 1878.

John’s other siblings were John Henry born in 1883, Elizabeth Annie born in 1888 and Caroline Sarah born in 1891.

John also had the following Randall half-siblings: Ellen born 1868, Emily born in 1870, Clara born c1872, Thomas born c1874, Elizabeth born c1876 (died 1876) and Mary Ann born c1878.

In 1891 the family were living in St Mary’s Hill, Newbury, John was working as a General Labourer.

John’s mother Ellen died aged 54 in 1901, she was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 27th February.

His father John Malachi died aged 62 on the 10th October 1919, he was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 15th October.
