Richard Knight
c1805-1885
Richard was a Bricklayer he was born in Nettlebed Oxfordshire the son of David and Mary Knight (nee Cotterill) who were married on the 24th January 1778 in Swyncombe Oxfordshire. (David was a Mealman from Nettlebed)
Richard married Sarah Duckett on the 3rd May 1838 at St Mary Reading and they had three children, David born c1839, Mary, born c1841 and Jane born 1843 (all births registered in Wokingham)
In 1841 Richard (35), Sarah (33), David (2) and Mary (3 months) were living in Whistley Green Hurst Berkshire
Sarah died aged 38 in 1845 (name at death registered as Night).
Richard remarried on the 8th February 1849 his 2nd wife was widow, Hannah Atto (nee Shepherd)
The 1851 census records Richard (45) living in Haines Hill Lodge, Broad Hinton, Berkshire with Hannah (57), David (12) and Jane (7).
In 1861 Richard (51), Hannah (73) and Jane (19) were recorded living in Hinton Lodge, Hurst, Berkshire
In the 1871 census Richard (65) and Hannah (84) were again recorded living in Haines Hill Lodge. Richard’s married daughter Mary Clinch (29) was also recorded in the household, as a visitor.
Hannah died aged 84 in 1871 (death registered in Wokingham)
In 1881 Richard (75) was recorded as a Lodger at “The Crown” Maiden’s Green Winkfield Berkshire
He died aged 80 on the 9th April 1885 and was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 15th April
Probate: Knight Richard Personal Estate: £111 10s 27th June 1885 Administration of the Personal Estate of Richard Knight late of 3 Enborne-terrace Newbury in the County of Berks Bricklayer a Widower who died 9th April 1885 at 3 Enborne-terrace was granted at Oxford to David Knight of Mount-pleasant Winkfield in the said County Bricklayer the son and only Next of Kin
