Here resteth the bodies of George Barnes died May 7th 1883 aged 79 and of / his wife Harriet died Jany. 31 1868 age 55 and daughter Elizabeth lane died March 4 1870 age 15. / (indecipherable / And of their son William Edgar Grose Barnes died Aug. 7th 1910 aged 73 years/ Also Adele Comyn Barnes entered into her rest June 29th 1942 age 94.

Harriet Barnes

WILLIAM EDGAR GROSE BARNES

Also GEORGE BARNES, HARRIET BARNES ne Mecey, HARRIET GEORGINA BARNES, ADELA COMYN BARNES and ELIZABETH LANE BARNES

William Edgar Grose Barnes was born in Newbury in 1836.  His father was George Barnes (1804 – 7 May 1883, aged 79, bur. NRC) and his mother was Harriet Mecey (1813 – 31 Jan 1868, aged 55, bur. NRC).  NB There is a lengthy NWN obit. Under George’s entry.  George was the Borough Auditor, a founder of the Literary and Scientific Institution, an original member of the Field Club and published a book of poems “Family Fugitives”.

               George and Harriet had the following Children:-

Frances Mecey (aka Mary) Barnes 1841-1885

Eleanor Barnes 1844

Harriet Georgina Barnes 1846-1889, bur. NRC

Adela Comyn Barnes 1848- 29 june 1942, bur. NRC

George Atkinson Barnes 1851-1917

John Barnes 1853-1917

Elizabeth Lane Barnes 1855-4 mar. 1870, bur. NRC

William was a surgeon in Fairford at 21 when he married in Walcot near Bath a Phoebe Isabel Lucas 7 April 1855.  Phoebe was born in Charlecote in 1829, her father was Samuel Lucas and her mother was Phoebe Robbins

In 1865  he is in partnership as doctors in Fairford as “Cromwall and Barnes”

IN 1871 he is shown in Beech House, Tottenham as a surgeon with his wife Phoebe and daughter Ellen

In 1891 he is in St Marylebone, a member of the college of Surgeons

William died aged 73 on 7th August 1910 and is bur. In NRC
