Brian Sylvester elected as Honorary Chairman
At a recent committee meeting Brian Sylvester was elected as chairman of the Friends of Newtown Road Cemetery.
At the Committee meeting of the Friends of Newtown Road Cemetery on June 9th, Brian Sylvester, who is known to many as Newbury's Town Crier, was elected unanimously to the position of Honorary Chairman with immediate effect. Brian has been an active member of the committee for some time and regularly attends our meetings with Newbury Town Council on behalf of the Friends along with other committee members.
Recently Brian has been involved in the restoration of the monuments of former town crier Joseph Beck and Freemason Walter Barclay Wilson who was The Worshipful Master of the Loyal Berkshire Lodge of Hope No 574 at his death in 1882, aged just 32 years.
He also played George Hammond Whalley in the recent re-enactment of the parliamentary enquiry into establishing Newtown Road Cemetery
The committee would like to express our thanks to Brian for taking on role of honorary chairman and wish him every success. |
