Cemetery evening buzzes
Record numbers for opening
The evening of Wednesday 3rd August was our most successful opening yet. Well over 70 visitors arrived and 51 – yes 51 – took the new tour, Medical Matters. We had a display of poisonous and medicinal plants in the Chapel, all picked that morning. There was a queue for the Find-a-Grave service. Verity Murricane displayed her herbal teas and we had ordinary tea and coffee on offer.
A small group refurbished several mason bee homes and they were then relocated to different walls. Let’s hope this attracts some more bees. A moth trap set up on Tuesday night by Paul Black produced 24 different types, all labelled for visitors and released unharmed at dusk. And after dark we heard the sound of two different bats, probably the pipistrelle but what was the other one?
Summer evening openings are our best attended events in the cemetery so expect more next year. |
