  Headstone: In the midst of life we are in death / Sacred / to the Memory of / William Brindley / who died Jany. 27th 1870 / aged 47 years. / Also of Joseph Brindley / who died May 8th 1914 / aged 90 years. / "He giveth his beloved sheep." //

    William & Joseph were sons of Wm & Charlotte Brindley. They lived in & around Old Newtown Rd & 'The City'. William was a licensed hawker & was acquitted of receiving stolen goods in 1848 at the Assize Court. He was also involved in an assault later in Newbury.He married Charlotte Aldridge whose family lived in the same area. Joseph married & worked as a general dealer. As a widower, he lived in a large Lodging House in Derby Rd, Newbury & working as a street Fish Hawker & 3 years before his death in 1911 was an inmate in East Ward of the Newbury Union Workhouse.
