Excellent until c 2017 then face with MI sheared off in several fragile sections, now propped against headstone. Footstone laid flat away from headstone. |

Joseph Moss Baverstock was born in Newbury & married Kezia Head, daughter of Sack Weaver, Joseph Head & his wife Jane Virtue of Greenham in 1860. They had 2 children & Kezia worked as a Charwoman in 1881. Joseph was a Blacksmith, first when a Private in the Royal Marines in Gosport, Hants. Her served in the China Campaign where he lost a leg & was pensioned out of the Navy with a wooden leg. After marriage he worked as a Blacksmith in Greenham &, by 1871, he & Kezia lived on Corn Wharf & was a Labourer in the Eagle Iron Works, later becoming a Screw Cutter at the Works in 1881. After his wife's death he lived in Wharf Rd, Newbury with his married son, Alfred, wife Sarah & grandchildren. When the family moved south, Joseph stayed alone at the Wharf drawing his Army Pension until he died in the Workhouse Infirmary, Newtown Rd. after fealling at home.
