  Headstone: In / Memory of / Elizabeth Shail / who departed this life / Dec. 8th. 1878 / aged 70 years. / "It is a faithful saying: For if we be dead / with him, we shall also live with him." //

    Elizabeth Shail (nee Lamb); Born in Ecchinswell, married Samuel Sheil, agricultural labourer of Woolhampton in 1844. Lived in Brimpton, Bucklebury & Speenhamland, Newbury. They had 1 son, Samuel, whio became a Whitesmith, living in Carnarvon Tce, Newbury, married to Anne Barnes, died 1917 & buried with wife in Plot MX3, NRC. After Elizabeth's death, Samuel Snr married Lucy Over in 1884-d.1897, then lived with Mary Ann nee Shail & her 4 children (no father listed on birth certs), 40 yrs his junior. She had attempted suicide by drowning in the KA Canal, Midgham in1884 aged 18 Source: Ancestry records.
