WILLIAM JOHN BELCHER

 

DEATH OF A DAIRYMAN

 

MR. W.J. BELCHER, OF SALCOMBE ROAD

 

          The funeral took place on Saturday at the Newtown-road Cemetery of Mr. William John Belcher, of 25 Salcombe-road, Newbury, who died on September 15th at the age of 70. Born at 109, Broad-street, Reading, where his father had a butcher's establishment. Mr. Belcher assisted his father and later took charge of a branch of the business at Caversham. About 22 years ago he came to Newbury and started as a dairyman in Salcombe-road, which business he carried on until his retirement some months ago. He lost his wife 19 years ago, and latterly he had been in failing health.

 

          Deceased was buried in the same grave as his wife, the grave being lined with moss and white flowers. The Rector of Newbury (Rev. W.L. Cooper) officiated. The mourners were Messrs Wallace, Charles and Walter E. Belcher (sons);  Mrs. Cox, Mrs. Fletcher and Mrs. Parker (daughters); Mr. and Mrs. W.R. Belcher (brother and sister-in-law); Mrs Day, Mrs. Downham and Mrs. Goring (sisters); Mr. W.R. Allee; Liphook (brother-in-law); Mr. W. Parker (son-in-law); Mrs. Cann, Chieveley (niece); Mr. T. Goring (nephew). A few old friends were also present.

 

          Wreaths were sent by: Walter, Charlie, Nellie and family; Wallace, Beatrice and children; Bartie and Nell;  Gladys, Tom and family; Bertha and family; Ada, Iris and Walter; Ethel and family; Primrose, Hughie and grandchildren; Nesta and Will; Kate and family; Lizzie and family; Winnie and Arnie; Charles and Lil.; Mr Cakebread; Ada and all at Wheeler's farm, Turgess; Walter and Aggie; Margaret, Jim and Miss Mundy; Jack and Jennie; Mr. and Mrs. Cartwright; Mrs Wigmore and Mrs. Willis; Unice Povey; Mr. and Mrs. S. Gibbs and Mr. and Mrs. D.H. Terry.

 

The funeral arrangements were carried out by Messrs Camp Hopson and Co. Ltd.
