William Norris

1774-1857

 

William was born in Andover Hampshire he married Sarah Hopgood (born c1775 Hampshire) in Andover on the 7th July 1801 (at the time of the marriage William was recorded as a Glover living in Newbury).

The 1815 census of Newbury records the family as follows:

Abode: Cheap Street (west side) Newbury (under sub area is recorded “Factory”)

William Norris aged 40, occupation: Breeches Maker

Sarah Norris aged 40

William Norris aged 13

James Norris aged 12

Henry Norris aged 9    (under notes column is recorded "in Cowslads")

George Norris aged 6

Mary Norris aged 5

Elizabeth Norris aged 3

 

In the 1841 census William was recorded as a Glover living in Trafalgar Place with his wife and daughter Mary.

Sarah died aged 72 in 1846 she was buried on the 6th May at St Nicolas Newbury.

In the 1851 census William was again recorded as a Glover, he was living in at St Bartholomew Almshouses, also living with him were his married daughter Mary Pinnock, her husband Thomas and their son Tom aged 2.

William died aged 83 in 1857 he was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 5
