Phoebe Danvass

c1785-1858

 

Phoebe was born c1785 in Donnington Berkshire she was the wife of Samuel Danvers /Danvass.

Samuel & Phoebe had the following children:

Elizabeth c1811

Sarah c1812

Mary c1815

Maria c1826

Caroline c1831

                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                    In 1815 the family were living in Lewis’s Yard Newbury (west side of Northbrook Street) and Samuel was working as a Barge Carter.

In 1841 Phoebe was recorded as a widow, living on the east side of Northbrook Street with her daughters Maria aged 15 and Caroline aged 10.

In 1851 she was working as a Willow (Willow Feeder meaning: Operated a self-acting Willow- a waste cleaner in cotton or woollen mills) and was living with her married daughter Maria Bright in Jack of Newbury Street.

She died aged 73 in 1858 she was laid to rest in the Newtown Cemetery on the 7th July.
