Sarah Abel
c1809-1887
Sarah Harris was born c1809 (in census records she was recorded as being born in London Middlesex and also Westbury Wiltshire). She married Henry Abel and they had a daughter, Matilda born in 1838 in Newbury.
In 1841 the family were living in The City Newbury and Henry was working as a Labourer. By 1851 they had moved to Bone Mill Enborne Berkshire and Henry was working as a Bone Mill Labourer. The 1861 census records Henry & Sarah living in Hereford Place St John the Evangelist Newbury, Henry was recorded as a Tallow Chandler. In the 1871 census they were recorded living in the parish of St Nicolas (Union Chapel Yard) Newbury and Henry was recorded as a General Labourer. In the 1881 census Sarah was recorded aged 72, a widow, with no occupation, lodging in The City Newbury.
Sarah’s husband Henry died aged 82 on the 29th January 1881 and was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 1st February.
Sarah died aged 78 on the 27th January 1887 and was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 31st January.
