Henry Abel

c1799-1881

Henry was born at sea, he married Sarah Harris and they had a daughter Matilda born in 1838 in Newbury.

In 1841 the family were living in The City Newbury and Henry was working as a Labourer.  By 1851 they had moved to Bone Mill Enborne Berkshire and Henry was working as a Bone Mill Labourer. The 1861 census records Henry & Sarah living in Hereford Place in the parish of St John the Evangelist Newbury, Henry was recorded working as a Tallow Chandler. In the 1871 census they were recorded living in the parish of St Nicolas (Union Chapel Yard) Newbury, Henry was recorded as a General Labourer.

Henry died aged 82 on the 29^th January 1881 and was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 1^st February.

His widow Sarah died aged 78 on the 27^th January 1887 and was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 31^st January.
