Ellen Edith Webb

1868-1943

 

Ellen was born in Newbury in 1868 she was the daughter of John & Susan Webb (nee Brooks) who were married in Newbury in 1856. Her father was a Grocer.

Ellen’s siblings were:

John Brooks 1857   Jessie Susannah 1858   Samuel 1859   Elizabeth Brooks 1861   Mary Annie 1863   Thomas 1864   Sarah 1866   Florence Isabel 1870   Martha 1871   Frank Guthrie 1873   Hetty Katharine Rayer  1875

In 1871 Ellen was living with her parents and siblings in Speenhamland (possibly Portland Place), by 1881 the family had moved to Portland Place Newbury.

In the 1891 census the family were recorded living at 50 Northbrook Street and Ellen was recorded as a Housekeeper.

By 1901 Ellen was living back in Portland Place with her sister Elizabeth.

In the 1911 census she is recorded living with her widowed brother Samuel and sisters, Sarah, Florence and Hetty in Portland Place.

The 1939 register records her living at Stanmore Donnington Square Newbury with her sister Elizabeth.

Ellen died aged 75 on the 21st December 1943 and was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 24th December.
