Joseph Rutherford Yarr

1875-1943

 

 Joseph was born on 2nd August 1875 at 20 Walnut Place Belfast Ireland and was the eldest child of Joseph & Margaret Yarr (nee Rutherford) who were married on 20th October 1874 at St Stephen County Antrim Belfast.

On 4thJune 1894 Joseph joined the British Postal Service in Belfast.

In 1901 Joseph was living in Westminster Cromac Antrim with his widowed father Joseph and was working as a Sorting Clerk.

Joseph married Mary Linn on 12th September 1907 in County Antrim and was living at 93 University Street Belfast and working as a Post Office Clerk at this time.

In 1909 Joseph and Mary were living at 18 India Street County Antrim Belfast and this was where Mary gave birth to all three of their children. Sheela was born 16th January 1909, Marcella was born 22 March 1914 and Brian Joseph was born on 5th May 1918.

Sometime between 1918 and 1925 Joseph moved to England as he was recorded living in Dyneley House Newmarket Street Skipton West Yorkshire in 1925. By 1934 the family had moved to Newbury as their daughter Sheela was married in Newbury that year. Their son Brian also married in Newbury in 1947.

 In 1939 Joseph was recorded as a Retired Postmaster living with his wife Mary at 6 Howard Road Newbury

Joseph Rutherford Yarr died aged 67 in Reading he was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on 3rd March 1943.

Yarr Joseph Rutherford of 6 Howard-road Newbury Berkshire died 28th February 1943 at the Royal Berkshire Hospital Reading Probate Oxford 3rd May to Mary Yarr widow.  Effects: £1209 5s 7d
