Mary Elizabeth Yalden
1848-1928
Mary Elizabeth Watts was born c1848, she was baptised on 2nd July 1848 in Ramsbury Wiltshire and was the daughter of Thomas & Eliza Watts (nee Woolford) who were married on 24th December 1845 in the parish church of Ramsbury. Sometimes Mary was recorded as Mary Elizabeth and at other times she used the name Elizabeth or Elizabeth Mary.
In 1851 Mary (aged 2) was recorded living with her parents Thomas and Eliza and her brothers William (aged 5), and John (aged 1) in Winterbourne Monkton Wiltshire.
In 1861 Mary (aged 12) was again recorded living with her parents and siblings William (aged 15), John (aged 11), George (aged 8), Sarah (aged 5) and Edward (aged 1).
In 1871 Mary was working as a Kitchen Maid in Kings Langley Hertfordshire
Mary (as Elizabeth )married William John Yalden in 1876.

In 1878 Mary gave birth to a son, Henry Thomas, his birth was registered in Hungerford.
In 1881 Mary was working as a Cook/Domestic Servant at 58 Prince’s Gate St George Hanover Square and William was working as a Man Servant at 12A Seville Row Westminster, Thomas was living with his grandparents Thomas & Eliza Watts.
In 1887 Mary gave birth to another son, Edward Charles whose birth was also registered in Hungerford.
Both the 1891 and 1901 census details record the family living in Bartholomew Street Newbury and William is recorded as a Coffee House Keeper. The 1911 census records William as a Baker Bread Maker, living at 43 Bartholomew Street Newbury with his wife Mary Elizabeth.
Mary’s husband William died aged 70 on 19th April 1927 and was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on 22nd April 1927.
Mary died aged 83 on 17th November 1928 and was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on 20th November 1928.
