Mary Ann Sperring

1852-1938

Mary Ann was born in 1852 and was baptised on the 26th December 1852 at St Nicolas Church Newbury.  She was the daughter of James Walter and Jane Sperring (nee Messenger) who were married in 1851in Newbury.

Mary was the eldest of 9 children, her siblings were:

William 1854   Jane 1856   James 1859   Harriet 1861   Hannah 1863   Walter 1866   Alice 1868    Frank Sperring 1871

 

In 1861 Mary was living at home (Frederick Cottages Newbury) with her parents and siblings . In 1871 Mary was recorded as a Domestic Servant and was living in Pleasant Place Newbury with her grandmother Mary Messenger. In 1891 Mary was recorded living with her parents and sisters Hannah and Alice at Prudential Villias Newbury. In both the 1901 and 1911 census records Mary was recorded living with younger sister Harriet in Burghfield Common Berkshire.

 

Mary Ann Sperring died aged 86 on the 21st December 1938 and was laid to rest in the Newtown Cemetery on the 24th December.

Her parents, sisters and 2 of her brothers, James & Frank were also buried in the Newtown Road Cemetery
