Jane Sperring

1856-1934

Jane was born in 1856 and was baptised on the28th December 1856 at St Nicolas Church Newbury. She was the daughter of James Walter & Jane Sperring (nee Messenger) who were married in Newbury in 1851.

Jane was the third of nine children, her siblings were:

Mary Ann 1852   William 1854   James 1859   Harriet 1861   Hannah 1863   Walter 1866   Alice 1868

In 1861 Jane was living at home (Frederick Cottages Newbury) with her parents and siblings Mary Ann and William. At the aged of 14 Jane was recorded as a scholar at Christ Hospital Educational Institution in Hertfordshire. By the time she was 24 years old Jane was working as a Nurse for Edward Wells, a wine merchant, at West Mead Newtown Road Newbury.

 In 1891 she was recorded living with her aunt Hannah Barnes (her mother‘s sister) in Blenheim Villa Station Road Twyford Berkshire. By 1911 she was back living with her widowed father James at East Lynne Villas Newbury.

Jane died aged 78 on the 17th November 1934 and was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on 20th November.

Her parents, sisters and 2 of her brothers, James & Frank were also buried in the Newtown Road Cemetery.
