John Totty Mayo

1838-1903

 

John Totty Mayo was born in Newbury in 1838 and was the son of William & Mary Mayo (nee Butson) who were married in 1838.

Witnesses: John Mayo and John Totty Mayo? Both Bride and Groom signed their names

In 1841 John was living with his parents in Northbrook Street Newbury.

In 1851 John was living with his parents in the parish of St Nicolas, his father William was working as an Auctioneers Porter.

By 1861 John had left home, his parents were recorded living in Caroline Place Newbury and his father William was working as a Labourer.

In 1871 John was recorded as a boarder living with the Dane family in Rugby Warwickshire and was working as a Tailor.

In both 1891 and 1901 John was living in East Woodhay Hampshire, the 1901 census recorded him working as a Journeyman Tailor.

John died in 1903 and was buried on 10th October at Newtown Road Cemetery
