Dorothy Edith Grace Tidbury

She was born on 2 June 1912 at 3 Castle View, Old Newtown Road, the daughter of Sidney Barnes Tidbury, a Domestic Gardener,  and his wife Edith Mary (nee Maccabee).   Her parents married in Newbury on 30 September 1911 and she was their first child. Her brother William Henry Edward was born on 26 August 1913.

Tragedy befell the family as reported in the local newspaper following an inquest held on 22 October 1913.  She died at Newbury District Hospital from “shock following burns caused by accidentally catching fire” at the age of 17 months on 21 October 1913.   She was brought from the Maccabee family home at Roseleigh, Cromwell Road,  and she was buried on 25 October.

The family moved to Reading where another brother,  Reginald Frederick Albert Arthur,  was born on 17 December 1914. Later her father volunteered and from 1915 to 1918 he served with the Devonshire Regiment in the Labour Corps.

Mrs. P. Code LS (G) 36  Page 148:     Her grandfather Henry Maccabee on 16 February 1934 and her grandmother Elizabeth Maccabee on 18 January 1939.  Also her uncle Corporal Thomas Arthur buried on 5 March 1920 and her uncle Corporal Reginald Joseph Maccabee who died on 4 December 1917 and is remembered on their grave.
