Death of a centenarian – Yesterday death knocked at the door of the oldest man in Newbury.  We refer to Mr Benjamin Freeman, who passed away at the advanced age of 101.  Last Saturday he kept his 101st birthday, and it was noticed he was not so well as usual.  He gradually became worse, took to his bed on Sunday, death occurring on Wednesday morning at twenty minutes to two.  Some five years ago deceased was elected to one of St. Bartholomew’s Almshouses.  Mr Freeman was scarcely so old as Mrs Coxeter, the last centenarian, her age being 102.
