CHARLES NUTLEY

FUNERAL OF THE LATE MR. C. NUTLEY – The funeral of the late Mr. Charles Nutley, whose death was recorded last week, took place on Saturday afternoon at the Newbury Cemetery, the Rector of Newbury officiating. The mourners included Messrs. W. and C. Nutley (sons), Mr. W. Neale (son-in-law), Mr. Neale (brother-in-law), Messrs. Garrett, Lott, and R. Mundy. Several of the tenants of the deceased also followed, including Messrs. Evans, Jeffery, Samwells, J. Davis, R. Whale and Eli Brown, of East Garston. The wreaths included those sent by Mrs. Nutley (widow). “His loving children”, “Allie and Walter”, Mr. Neale and family, “There then follows a list of the many people who sent flowers”. Blinds and shutters were drawn and closed en route.  The coffin was of polished oak, with brass furniture, and plate engraved:-

“CHARLES NUTLEY,

Born May 24, 1831;

Died May 20, 1891”

The funeral arrangements were carried out by Messrs. Penford and Son, of Northbrook-street.

He was buried on 23 May 1891 aged 59 in the family vault.
