Daisy Annie Copas nee Hartridge (grave: W23)
Daisy was born in Bromley, Kent on 22nd. July, 1887. The only daughter of Raymond and Eliza nee Fairman. Sadly, her mother died in December 1889. Her father was a Master Butcher and had his own shop in Palace Road. He remarried in 1885 and three more children were born to Raymond and Annie Maria nee Muffett. In later years, (1930s), her half-brother, William Raymond came to live in Newbury and Daisy and family brought up his daughter after his wife died in 1941 .
Daisy went into service and became a ladies maid, caring for her mistress’s clothes and travelling with the Cross family for the Season in London. On 5th April, 1915, she married Francis Victor Copas in Aston Tirrold. (It’s said that they met when he was delivering meat to the household.) Lady Eleanor Cross was one of the witnesses to their marriage.
They made their first home at 78 Gloucester Road, Newbury and their three children were born there –
Robert James “Bob” 1918-1984
Cynthia Mary 1921-2010
Katherine May 1923-2015.
Later, they lived at 21 Rectory Close, Newbury and after Frank’s death in 1951, Daisy lived with her son Bob and his family until her death on 9th. February, 1965.
