John Elkins

He was born on 24 July 1795, second son of John and Sarah Elkins in Devizes, Wiltshire. His birth is recorded in the Baptist Register, Devizes. He is the brother of Samuel Elkins (1790-1857). In the 1841 and 1851 Census he is living with his first wife, Isabella, and family in Bartholomew Street where he is working as a Currier and employing 4 men. After Isabella died in 1859, he married Elizabeth James in 1861 and by 1871 they retired to 3 Donnington Square.

He died on 13 August 1873 aged 78 years and he was buried on 16 August 1873 alongside his first wife Isabella.  Probate was granted to Alfred Jackson, Draper of Market Place, and Alfred George Whitington, Dairyman of West Fields Newbury.
