JAMES EDMONDS

He was born c. 1823 in Newbury, the eldest son of Thomas Edmonds (1793-1862) and his second wife Ann, nee Higgs (1798-1875). His father was a Cabinet Maker and Upholsterer and in 1841 James is already a Cabinet Maker aged 15 working and living at 35 Northbrook Street. He married Hannah Sanford in 1845 in Newbury and they had 6 children; James Higgs (b. 1846), Henry (b. 1848), William (b.1850), Frederick (b.1855), Elizabeth (b.1858) and Thomas (b.1859). After his wife Hannah died in 1887, he moved to Ventnor, Isle of Wight living with his son James, a Draper, and grandson Archibald, a Draper’s Apprentice. Late of Station Road, Addlestone, Surrey, he died on 10 January 1900 aged 77 years at 39 Northbrook Street, Newbury. Probate was granted to John Edmonds, retired Watchmaker, and to Frank Daniels, Mineral Water Manufacturer. He was buried on 13 January 1900 alongside  his wife Hannah who predeceased him on 21 August 1887.
