Charles Edmonds

He was born in 1832 in Newbury, the sixth child of Thomas Edmonds (1793-1862) and  his second wife Ann, nee Higgs (1798-1875). His father was a Cabinet Maker and Upholsterer living and working in Northbrook Street and he is recorded, aged 10, in the 1841 census living with his family at 35 Northbrook Street. By 1851 he is trading with other grocers at 6 Albany Place, Stepney, Tower Hamlets, London.  In 1860, he married Fanny Harvey Ingram in Melksham, Wiltshire and by 1861 they are living at 36 Northbrook Street with their first born child Florence Ingram Edmonds. Mother-in-law Charlotte Ingram and sister-in-law Adelaide Ingram are visiting. By 1871 Charles and his family have moved to 41 Northbrook Street, now trading as a Grocer and Wine Merchant. His wife Fanny died in 1899 and in the 1901 census he is living on his own means in Wash Common with his daughter Florence and one servant. He died late of Wash Common, Newbury,  on 28 February 1909 aged 77 years and he was buried on 4 March 1909 alongside his wife Fanny who predeceased him on 1 February 1899.
