William Henry East
He was born in 1861 in East Hagbourne, Berkshire, the son of Edward (sometimes recorded as Edmund) Creek East, who worked for the Great Western Railways, and Mary, nee Andrews. In the 1881 census he is shown working as a General Servant to Martha Appleford, a Grocer and Pork Butcher located in Caversham Street, Henley. On 24 June 1889 he married Eliza Ann Lewington at St. Mary, Reading, Berkshire. By 1891 he is living with his wife and their first child Elizabeth Annie at 4 Victoria Place, Newbury: his occupation is Butcher’s Assistant. In 1901 the family is living at 2 Park Terrace, and by the time of the 1911 Census he is recorded living at No.1 Northbrook Street, Newbury, with his wife and 3 daughters – Elizabeth Annie (age 21), Ada Mary (age 16) and Ellen May (age 8) – and working as a Butcher’s Foreman. He died on 30 November 1920, aged 59 years, Butcher’s Manager late of The Bridge, Newbury. Probate was granted to his daughter Elizabeth Annie East. He was buried on 3 December 1920.
