EDITH ANN HOPSON buried 15th January 1941, aged 80

St. Donat's (the house)* was named by Edith Hopson, when she and her husband, Joseph Herbert Hopson,** went to live there in 1928.

“Mrs. Hopson (born Edith Stradling) was related to the Strading family that occupied St. Donat's Castle in Wales from 1298 until 1738 and from 1862 until 1901. She named it after the castle, which dates from 1180.”

From Robin Tubb's book “Newbury: Road by Road” 2011: page 58.
