Passing away on Wednesday at the patriarchal age of 97, Timothy Knight was laid to rest in Newbury Cemetery on Monday.

“Timothy,” for such he was always called was the oldest local preacher in the Newbury Circuit of the Wesleyan Methodist Connexion, his name, as we understand, having appeared on the plan for seventy years. He had a quaint racy style, and his homely scriptural style of preaching was much enjoyed by the country people.

He was employed for many years by the firm of Messrs. J.H. Mason and Co., and subsequently by Mr. Henry Mason, but his declining days were spent in the quiet enjoyment of an almshouse.
