Jane Arnold
c1832-1907
Jane, her parents, siblings and early life:
Jane Hunt was baptised on the 16th December 1832, in Thatcham, Berkshire, the daughter of Isaac and Maria Hunt (nee Cook) who were married on the 6th March 1831, in Thatcham.
According to census records Jane’s father Isaac was born c1804 in Newbury, Berkshire. Isaac died aged 65, he was buried on the 29th April 1865, at St Mary Thatcham.
Jane’s mother Maria Cooke was born on the 22nd February 1808, she was baptised on the 3rd April 1808 in Thatcham, the daughter of Thomas and Joyce Cook (nee Alsbury) who were married on the 3rd March 1806, in Thatcham. Maria died aged 77, she was buried on the 17th March 1883, at St Mary Thatcham
Isaac and Maria also had the following children baptised in Thatcham:
Harriet, 17th August 1831 (died 1831, buried 24th August, at St Mary Thatcham)
Mary Ann, 29th March 1835 (died 1835, buried 21st April, at St Mary Thatcham)
Charlotte, born c1836 (no baptism found)
Ann, 3rd December 1837
George, 26th April 1840
Joseph, 8th October 1843
Charles, 8th November 1846 (died aged 4, buried 22nd July 1850, at St Mary Thatcham)

The 1841 census records Issac (35), an Agricultural Labourer, Maria (30), George (14), Jane (8), Charlotte (5), Ann (3) and Susanna Cook (7), living in Broad Street, Thatcham.
In 1851 Isaac (47), an Agricultural Labourer, Maria (46) and their children, Jane (19), Charlotte (16), and Ann (14), all Agricultural Labourers, George (11), Joseph (8), John (2) and Abraham (3 months), were living in Chapel Street, Thatcham.
In 1861 Isaac (58), an Agricultural Labourer, Maria (54), a Servant, Jane (28), a Servant, George (21), a Carter, Joseph (17), a Labourer and John (12), a Carter Boy, were still living in Chapel Street Thatcham
Jane in later life:
Jane married Henry Arnold on the 26th October 1861, in Thatcham.
(Henry was baptised on the 5th March 1837, in Thatcham, Berkshire, the son of Henry and Maria Arnold (nee Blake) who were married on the 18th April 1830, in Thatcham).
Henry and Jane had the following children:

The 1871 census records Henry (34), an Agricultural Labourer, Jane (38) and their children, Ann (9), Maria (7), and John (5), living at 49 Chapel Street, Thatcham.
In 1881 Henry (45) was working as a Railway Navvy, living in Chapel Street, Thatcham, with Jane (48) and their children, Ann (19) a Rag Sorter (Paper Mill), John (15) a Farm Carter, Sarah (9) and Emily (6).
By 1891 Henry (55), Jane (59), their daughters, Sarah (18) and Emily (16) both Laundresses and their granddaughter, Elizabeth Nailor (5), were living at 4, The Nurseries, Old Newtown Road, Newbury.
Jane was widowed in 1892. Henry died aged 56, on the 22nd March. He was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 26th March.
The 1901 census records Jane (69), living in Old Newtown Road, Newbury. Her married daughter Sarah Piper (28), her son-in-law John Piper (32), a Domestic Coachman, and her grandchildren, Emily Piper (7), Frank Piper (5), Jane Naylor (19), a Laundress and Elizabeth Naylor (15) a General Domestic Servant, were living with her.
Jane died aged 74, on the 31st May 1907, she was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery, with Henry on the 4th June.
