Grace was born on the 30th June 1853 in Newbury, Berkshire. She was baptised on the 15th July 1853, at St Nicolas, Newbury, the daughter of Alfred (a Locksmith) and Mary Ann Townsend Ayers (nee Flounders)

Grace died aged 4 months, she was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 5th November.

Grace’s family:

Her father Alfred was baptised on the 13th November 1822, at St Nicolas Church, Newbury, the son of William (a Gunsmith) and Mary Ayers.

Grace’s mother Mary Ann Townsend was born on the 4th May 1832, in East Woodhay, Hampshire. She was baptised on the 24th June 1832, at St George in the East, Tower Hamlets, Middlesex, the daughter of William (a Shipwright) and Mary Flounders.

Grace’s siblings were:

An unnamed Ayres stillborn child, buried in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 27th August 1851

In 1851 Mary Flounders (19) was working as a Nursemaid for George Gray (41), an Attorney of Law and his family, in Northbrook Street, Newbury. Alfred Ayres (28) was working as a Whitesmith, lodging in Ayres Yard, Bartholomew Street, Newbury. They married in 1851 (marriage registered in the September quarter, in Newbury)

The 1861 census records Alfred Ayers (38), Mary (28) and their children, Emily (5) and Elizabeth (3), living at 89 Frederick Street, Cardiff.

The 1871 census records Alfred Ayers (47), a Whitesmith and Locksmith, living at 34 Edward Street, Llandaff, with Mary (38), a Schoolmistress, William (16), a Painter’s Apprentice, Emily (15) and Edward (5).

Alfred Ayres died aged 51, in 1874, in Llandaff, Cardiff

In 1881 Mary Ayres (48) and her children, William (26), a Painter, Elizabeth (23), a School Teacher and Edward (13) were recorded living in Llandaff, Glamorgan.

Marry Ann Ayers died aged 56, in 1889, in Llandaff, Cardiff
