Lawrence Geater

Lawrence, his parents and siblings:
Lawrence was baptised on the 14th September 1788, at St Mary, Kintbury, Berkshire, the son of John and Mary Geater (nee Langfield) who were married on the 10th October 1787, in Kintbury.
Lawrence’s mother Mary was born c1767. Mary died aged 72, in 1839, she was buried on the 27th January, at St Mary, Kintbury.
Lawrence’s father John was born c1762. John died aged 87, in 1849, he was buried on the 27th November, at St Mary, Kintbury

Lawrence married Mary Blackman on the 29th July 1811, in East Woodhay, Hampshire. (Both were from Newbury)
(Mary was baptised on the 23rd January 1785, at St Nicolas, Newbury, the daughter of Thomas and Christian (spelt Xtian) Blackman)

Twins: George and Thomas Gater, baptised 28th August 1820 (Thomas died aged 2 years 2 months, he was buried on the 15th November 1822, at St Nicolas, Newbury)
Charles Gaiter, born 18th May 1822, baptised 20th April 1823 (Wesleyan Methodist)

In 1815 Lawrence Geatter (27), (no occupation recorded for Lawrence) Mary (29), their son John (3) and their daughter Elizabeth (1), were living on the west side of Newtown Lane, Newbury.
The 1841 census records Lawrence (55), a Bricklayer, Mary (50), their daughter Ann (20), a Bonnet Maker, and their sons, David (15), a Bricklayer’s Labourer and Joseph (11), living in Newtown Road, Newbury.
Lawrence was a widower by 1842, (Possible death for Mary Geater, December quarter 1841, in Newbury) as records show he remarried on the 19th March 1842, at St Nicolas, Newbury. His new wife was Mary Ann Allen (nee Samuels/Samuells)
Lawrence and Mary Ann had a son Richard, born c1843, in Newbury.
The 1851 census records Lawrence Gaiter (64) as a Bricklayer, living in Old Newtown Road, Newbury, with Mary Ann (48), and their son Richard (8).
In 1861 Lawrence Gater (75) was recorded as a Hay Cutter, living in Old Road, Newbury, with Mary Ann (58) and Richard (18), a General Labourer.
By 1871 Lawrence Geater (84), a Hay Trusser and Mary Ann (68) were living in King John’s Almshouses, Newbury.
Lawrence was widowed in 1872. Mary Ann died aged 69. Her funeral service was held at St John the Evangelist Newbury and she was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 21st May
Lawrence died aged 88, in 1873. His funeral service was also held at St John the Evangelist Newbury and he was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 8th March.
