Hannah Ballard
c1813-1898
Hannah Bowsher was baptised on the 21st March 1813, in Lambourn, Berkshire, the daughter of Henry and Hannah Bowsher (nee Pottenger) who were married in 1799, in Lambourn.
Henry and Hannah also had the following children baptised in Lambourn:

Hannah married Richard Smith on the 13th February 1832, at St Michael and All Angels,
Lambourn.
(Richard was a Baker. He was born c1806 in Lambourn)
Richard and Hannah had the following children:
Ann, c1833, in Lambourn
Henry, 1836, in Lambourn
Ellen, c1839, in Lambourn
James, c1843, in Thatcham
Susannah, 1845 in Thatcham
Sarah, c1848, in Thatcham
Emily, 1854, in Thatcham
In 1841 Richard (30), Hannah (25), Ann (8), Henry (5) and Ellen (2), were recorded living in Broad Street, Thatcham Berkshire.
The 1851 census records Richard (45), Hannah (38), Ellen (12), James (8), Susannah (5) and Sarah (3), still living on Broad Street, Thatcham, Berkshire.
In 1861 Richard (55), Hannah (48) and their children, James (18), a Baker, Sarah (13) and Emily (8), were recorded living in a Private House, in Church Lane, Thatcham.
Hannah was widowed in 1866, Richard died aged 59. He was buried on the 18th July, at St Mary, Thatcham.
The 1871 census records Hannah (57) and her daughter Sarah (22) as laundresses, living in Church Lane, Thatcham.
Hannah remarried in 1871, her 2nd husband was a widower, John Ballard (marriage registered in the June Quarter, in Newbury)
(John Ballard was baptised on the 10th September 1826, in Thatcham Berkshire, the son of William and Hannah Ballard. John married Sarah Hawkins in 1854. They had the following children: Henry William, 1854, George, c1856 Samuel James, 1858, Elizabeth Ann, 1860, Phebe Julia, c1862 and Sarah Ann, 1864. John was widowed in 1866, Sarah died aged 39, she was buried on the 17th June, at St Mary, Thatcham)
The 1881 census records John (54), a Master Coach Builder, employing 5 men, Hannah (68), Samuel (22), a Coach Builder and Hannah’s daughter Sarah Smith (33), A Dressmaker, living in Station Road, Thatcham.
Hannah was widowed again in 1883. John died aged 56, He was buried on the 17th February, at St Mary, Thatcham
The 1891 census records Hannah (76), living alone, at 3, Chimney Lane, Thatcham, Berkshire. She was being supported by her family.
Hannah died aged 84 on the 3rd February 1898, she was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 7th February.
